Ryan Gregson is a middle distance runner who has become a household name in the world of athletics and currently holds the Australian and Oceania record for the Men’s 1500 meters.
At 21 years of age, Gregson is on track – literally and figuratively – to make his Olympic debut in London after recently winning the Olympic Trials in Melbourne in March 2012. In a blistering time of 3:38.51, Gregson finished four seconds ahead of 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist, Asbel Kiprop of Kenya.
As a junior, Gregson set the Australian youth records over 1500 meters, 3000 meters and 5000 meters. His 3000m time of 8:01.26 was also an Australian junior record. During his final year as a junior, he set new Australian junior records over both 3000 and 1500 meters, with times of 7:57.45 and 3:37.24 respectively.
Gregson qualified for the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany, where he again competed in the 1500 meters. He captured his first national senior title at the 2010 Australian Championships in Athletics, out-sprinting World Championships semi-finalist Jeff Riseley to win the 1500 meters.
